Two Trousers One Job
When you’re staring down two of our newest tough-as-nails TuffStuff trousers, it’s a fair question, how do you actually pick?
Apex Flex or Evo Flex- of course, you don’t have to just stick with one pair (and we certainly won’t make you), but like any good advice, we think it’s good to understand where each pair really grafts before you lock in your decision.
Because, like a good tea or coffee, this isn’t a case of one being better than the other, in fact, they’re very similar in a lot of ways. The difference comes down to how you work (and for the latter, how early you were up in the morning!)
Both pairs will do the job. The trick is picking the one that fits your graft.
Know Your Trade, Know Your Trousers
If you’ve read our TuffStuff Guide: Choosing the Right Trousers for Your Trade, then you’re one step ahead- and you’ll also know there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to site kit.
This is where things get a bit more specific, however, and now we’re putting the newest TuffStuff trouser additions through their paces.
We all know that not every job site’s the same, and that means neither is every tradie’s tick list. What works for a roofer might trip up a plumber (literally). So before you pick your pair, it may sound obvious, but it’s worth thinking about what your day actually looks like.
- First up, mobility: If you’re a sparky crawling under floors or up and down ladders all day, you need trousers that aren’t going to leave you in the lurch when those positions get..well, questionable.
- Next, durability: Brickies, groundworkers, landscapers, we’re looking at you. You’re dealing with rubble, rough surfaces, and constant wear, so your kit needs to take a beating like a champ.
- Finally, storage: Joiners and fitters- we see you, and we know you need pockets that actually work. Somewhere for tools, fixings, and everything else you don’t want to keep running back to the van for, pockets are your best mate.
So, with this in mind, let’s move onto the main event- our two new heavy hitters.
Apex Flex: Hard Graft Heroes
If your day involves more punishment than precision, the Apex Flex Trousers are built to take as much of a beating as you do. Rough surfaces, heavy materials, constant movement… You name it, they can handle it.
That’s where the 4-way ripstop fabric brings home the bacon: tough where it needs to be, yet flexible enough to move when you’re up the ladder for what feels like the hundredth time in an hour. You’ve also got twin holster pockets for easy access to tools (one less trip down the ladder), plus Cordura kneepad pockets that hold up when you’re up and down all day.
And no, that’s not all- add in a reinforced rubberised button that won’t pop under pressure, and a slim fit with stretch in the right places, and you’ve got trousers that are built to last without getting in your way.
It’s no accident they’re called the ‘Apex’, either- these are trousers made for the trades at the top of the tuff graft chart. So if you’re one of those bricklayers, groundworkers, landscapers, tilers we mentioned before, the Apex have your name on them.
To sum it up, the Apex are your hard graft heroes. No fuss, no weak points, just proper durable work trousers that get on with whatever the job throws at them.
Evo Flex: The Future of Flex
After a trouser that’s made for real movement? congratulations, you’ve struck gold.
Now, you may be thinking, but both pairs have “flex” in the name? But we say the Evo Flex Trousers take that term, and run with it. If your job involves the kind of days where you’re up, down, over and under, squeezing into tight spaces, climbing into cupboards, and never really standing still (even your brew seems to be on the move), we’re talking electricians, joiners, maintenance techs, interior fitters — this is your lane.
The devil is in the detail, and the difference starts with the fabric. The Evo uses full 4-way stretch, importantly not ripstop like the Apex, which means it’s lighter, softer, and seriously flexible. You get a slim, sleek fit that moves as easily as your boss on the pub dancefloor after 3 pints, just without going baggy by the end of the day.
And don’t worry, you’ve still got the essentials where it counts, with Cordura kneepad pockets for durability, a reliable YKK zip, and a part-elasticated waistband that adds that extra bit of comfort when you’re bending, stretching, or loaded up with tools. They’re under the TuffStuff name, so by TuffStuff law, they are certainly still tuff trousers.
If you’re up, down, over and under, Evo’s got your back (and your knees.)
Still Not Sure? Ask Around (Or Try Both)
Still on the fence? Fair enough, you wouldn’t be the first, and you definitely won’t be the last!
The truth is, both the Apex Flex and Evo Flex are top-drawer- and that’s without even being biased (we promise). It’s not about picking a winner; it’s about what suits your workday, your movement, and most importantly, your workwear preferences.
If in doubt, do what all of us tradies do, ask around. Bacon butty break? Have a word on site. Long trip in the van? See what your mates are wearing. Or even check out what the pros are saying. Lads like Danny Madden have put this kit through its paces in real conditions, so you don’t have to, and are happy to tell the TuffStuff team straight what’s good, and what needs work.
Same goes for the wider TuffStuff community. From team picks to behind-the-scenes shoots, there’s no shortage of real people wearing this gear day in, day out, and after all, we’ve put our best TuffStuff brains into this new kit.
So if you ever need a bit of advice, just give us a shout. Or, if you really want to settle it properly… try both (we wouldn’t blame you). Plenty of grafters rotate pairs depending on the job anyway.
Fit Your Trousers to Your Trade
At the end of the day, it’s not about grabbing whatever’s on offer or going with what your first Google search swears by (unless it’s TuffStuff, obviously!), it’s about picking gear that actually matches how you work.
Think about your day. The movement, the wear, the tools you carry, the jobs you’re doing- even that corner shop dash. Get that right, and your trousers stop being something you just work in, and start being something that works with you.
Both the Apex Flex and Evo Flex are built for graft. The difference is where that graft happens.
So choose smart. Choose what fits your trade.
